on Degrees of Freedom

Two nights ago, I watched with my wife the ...switching off of BBC World in Athens along with ERT/NET...

It was a shocking experience...

Suddenly, I thought... what the F*** ? Are the tanks coming out again as in 1967?

In a country, Greece, where people have suffered Nazi's occupation and civil war in the 40's and junta in 60's and 70's, the feeling these days is of helpless desperation...

Since 2009, public education and public health have suffered massively in Greece...

On 11th June, it was the turn of the public media with a dubious tactic, bypassing Parliament and MPs vote...

But, none of the memorandums with IMF/EU has asked for any of these!

The Greek state is commiting suicide slowly but steadily. As a teacher and a father of two, I feel so alone watching this tragedy unfolding for the young people...
who have to face
1. 65% unemployment or
2. a monthly salary of about 400 euros or
3. immigration abroad...

The freedom of thought, the freedom of writting, the freedom of teaching are all inter-connected and with any one of these freedom degrees missing, Society can not move forward.

But, actually, isn't this the plan of (the external) Troika with the unconditional support of the internal Troika (of New Democracy, Pasok and Dimar) ?

To turn Greece into a "protectorate" of cheap labour and non-existing Public Education and Health...

Unfortunately, this is the plan and this should be quite obvious now, after 4 years of austerity...

The brightest minds are moving abroad.
Brain-drain is getting more severe as days pass by...
Re-building Greece is not an easy task...anymore.
But, alas, it never was...
