Scene 3: EU parliament: on Wednesday 15th April, Asopos becomes an pan-european case! The representative of Mr Dimas -EU’s environment commissioner, Mr D. Yiotakos accepts publicly that Asopos case was closed in 2006 but the protests of local people forced the Commission to re-open the file in 2007. EU Commission will soon establish a maximum limit for hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] in water. For how long though will the people of Thiva, Oinofita, Avlida and Oropos be drinking contaminated toxic water?

the judges of this country need to start applying the EU principle “the Polluter Pays the Cost”, in brief PPC. In Italy, Mr Felice Casson, now a member of the Italian Senate, became famous because of the high fines he imposed as the principal prosecutor in the trial of major directors of Enichem and Montedison regarding an environmental disaster and the death of 157 workers due to PVC production in Marghera, an industrial district of Venice, in 2005. The fines, following the PPC principle, were €500 million!
